They say that cross training or changing things up in your fitness routine will actually help you get better results than doing the same old thing day in and day out. Besides doing the same old routine is boring isn’t it?
Well, just like exercise your Pinterest account needs change & variety too. At the very least you need to change things around to reflect the current season which can give your Pinterest page a boost.
Pinterest boards are like window displays that you see in stores at the shopping mall.  Imagine shopping right now in November which means thinking Christmas but still seeing the same window display that has been up since summer! What messages are sent by the business?
It shows you’re not on top of your game and it certainly won’t help attract potential customers where the vast majority are now in Christmas shopping mode not summer shopping mode.
A makeover and staying current with the latest trends/seasons will definitely get more eyes on your Pinterest page and get you more followers too. Did you know that 67% of shoppers use Pinterest to stay on top of trends?
You see Pinterest is a discovery tool.
When it comes to Facebook and Twitter users go there to have conversations and see what their friends are up to.
On Pinterest your target audience is there to discover something new – a decor idea for Christmas, a low calorie recipe, a new outfit for a New Year’s eve party, and so much more.  They are in shopping mode.
So you want to make sure that your brand is leveraging trending topics on Pinterest. If you’re not then the slower than optimal growth in your Pinterest followers count will reflect that. You want to do all you can to maximize your efforts on Pinterest; it takes continuous effort. If you want to have success on Pinterest you constantly need to fine tune your content strategy.
With that in mind your Pinterest account will need a new strategy for the new season as well:
  1. Review the “About” section
An often-neglected aspect of corporate social media profiles are the text descriptions or “About” sections. When was the last time you updated the written copy there? If it’s looking a little out of date or stale give it an update that more closely aligns with your latest marketing or customer service messaging. Good social media marketing requires that you use specific keywords that will ramp up your SEO. Do this in your About section too.
  1. Update Your Profile Picture
When was the last time you updated your profile picture? Challenge your graphic designer to put a bright, fresh face on your brand for the winter months. And please make sure it’s properly formatted; which means clear.  Fuzzy images will not make a great first impression.
Here’s an example of Allure Magazine showing their current Allure cover, star of the month.

  1. Rearrange Your Pinterest Boards
Your first couple of rows should clearly represent the current season or trending topics. If you still have Back to School and summer fashion items on top left of your grid layout then you might decrease your chances of being followed.
Sephora has kept all their “fall” boards together keeping the theme consistent. Notice how their first board clearly shows what’s trending right now? Sephora gets it!

  1. Highlight Your Best Boards
First impressions matter so be strategic and place your top five most popular boards in the first row but also make sure that your boards are arranged in themes or categories. For example, if you’re going to place “Fall Fashion” as your first board you want it to follow with the boards that also relate to fashion.
  1. Rename Your Pinterest Boards
One of the struggles many businesses face is the time to create new content. Instead of creating a new board have a look at which board you can convert so that it’s trending with the current season or holiday. As an example I have a board contributor called “Summer Quench” which reflected the summer season. I can easily change that board to “Autumn Drinks”.

Being creative with board names is fun and if you don’t do it you risk the chance of not being found or followed because your boards won’t be optimized or clear or in season. Don’t make pinners second guess what the theme of your board is. The more specific your board names, the more likely people will find the images they want & click your links to drive themselves to your website… and that increases your odds of making more sales. As a Pinterest Consultant one of my primary focuses is on helping you & my customers increase sales.
  1. Change Your Cover Board
I’m value attention to detail so when I suggested renaming the title of your board this means you’ll need to change your cover board image too and add four new images so the view of your entire board is consistent. I recommend that you choose the image that has the most repins and make sure the color theme flows nicely.
  1. Create A New Board
Take the opportunity to promote new products, services and events by creating new boards to keep your Pinterest account interesting and up to date. You can also use this as part of your email marketing campaign to notify your customers of new things that you offer thereby providing more value to them.
The new season is also a good time to reassess your Pinterest marketing strategies and decipher what’s working and what’s not and then make the necessary adjustments.
How often…
  1. Do you ever look at how many followers you’re getting on each board?
  2. Do you track which images are getting the most repins?
  3. Do you track what images people are pinning from your website?
  4. Do you check your Pinterest analytics for the answers to 1-3 above?
