SHE’S the lady behind the designs hundreds of women will be wearing this race day, but you probably haven’t heard of her or her brand.
Natalie De’banco has designed dresses for a number of fashionable fillies especially for this week’s festivities, but her label Bronx and Banco isn’t a household name.
“I’ve sold about 300 dresses over the racing season, so I imagine some of them will be popping up over the coming days,” De’banco told Confidential.
Among the local and international talent who have donned De’banco’s popular designs are Delta Goodrem, Lorde, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Rebecca Judd, Erin Molan, Jesinta Campbell and Paula Abdul.
And the way most of these ladies have discovered her wares is through social media.
“We were really flattered when we discovered Rebecca Judd was a fan of the collection and purchased the product online and shared her purchase in an Instagram photo,” De’banco said.
“B&B’s online presence is growing everyday.
“Our digital platforms are a go-to for fashion-savvy customers and we are constantly updating our channels with weekly photoshoots, collaborations online with fashion bloggers, models, personalities. It’s a real community and customers buy straight off an Instagram post.”
De’banco’s advice for racegoers this season is to keep it simple and classy.
“Melbourne Cup fashion evolves each year and often weeks and months are spent just researching the right outfit and accessories,” she said.
“The Melbourne Cup is an elegant event and an opportunity to embrace colour and individuality through an amazing headpiece which could be anything from real flowers — which are extremely popular this year — to jewels, crowns and the traditional hats,” de’Banco said.
“Dresses should be knee length at a minimum to be adventurous with shapes, styles and textures,” she added
